Argo 100XR Kayak Review - Pelican International

Argo 100XR Kayak Review From Pelican International

One of our newest additions from Pelican Kayaks is the Argo 100XR Cosmo. We are already in love with their Mustang kayak so neither of us could wait to take the Argo 100XR out for few test runs. So here is an honest review of what we think about this comfortable kayak.

Stats:

Length: 10 feet

Cockpit Width: 25 inches

Cockpit Length: 48 inches

Weight: 43 pounds

Max. Capacity: 300 pounds

Hull Material: RAM-X PREMIUM

Color: Blue and orange

MSRP: $469.99 – $529.99 (depending on where you buy it from)

First impression:

One of the first things that we noticed about the Argo 100XR is the super comfy ERGOCOAST seat. This is the most comfortable kayak seat that we have sat in so far. It makes long days out on the water a breeze. You can also remove the seat easily and turn it into a camping chair to use on the beach or around the campfire. This feature is especially beneficial when we are transporting the kayak. Without the seat, the kayak is a lot easier to carry and also a bit lighter.

Features:

Adjustable footrests
We love this feature on our Mustang 100x kayak, so we were thrilled to see them here. This level of adjustability is great for ensuring that the kayak has a nice custom fit for the user. The footrests have a wide variety of adjustment levels that cover everything from less than 5ft to over 5ft 10.

Bottle cage
Inside the cockpit, you will find a really nice bottle holder tucked away in the corner. We like this option a lot more than the bottle holder that goes between your legs.

Cockpit table
The Argo 100RX kayak also has a cockpit table with a bungee cord that will give you a nice secure place to store your phone.

Drain plug
Easily accessible. It’s located in a good spot to make it easy to drain.

ErgoCoast™ Portable Seating System
As we mentioned above, this portable seat on the Argo 100RX is not only super comfortable but also works as a camping chair if you decided to beach it somewhere.

Ergonomic carrying handles
Comfortable for carrying the kayak longer distances

Paddle tie-down
The ARGO 100XR has a bungee cord paddle holder built into the right side. This will help save you additional trips to the car when you are trying to get your boat and the rest of the gear down to the water in one trip.

Premium knee pads
This boat has the newer style premium knee pads that are made out of a wetsuit-type material. They are firmly attached to the boat so they won’t be slide around. These knee pads are super comfortable. Because of that, they definitely come in handy on long days out on the water.

Rigging tracks
The Argo 100XR comes with 2 rigging tracks that can be found to the right and left of the front of the cockpit. These are awesome if you are trying to find a good mounting option for your Gopro, GPS, Rod holders, cup holders, and other items.

Quick-Lock hatches with storage bag
In the back of the kayak, you’ll have a decent size double-locking hatch that gives you access to a storage bag. This is perfect for keeping your stuff dry and secure.

Extra Storage
This boat comes with a decent amount of storage. You have the ability to stow things under the deck in front of your feet. There are also 2 bungees in front of the cockpit that can be used to strap down small items.

Review:

At 43 lbs, the Argo 100XR is a bit heavier than our trusty Mustang 100x. However, if you take the portable seat out, it seemed like the kayak weighs about the same. This makes the Argo 100XR Kayak quite light and easy to transport. The seat is really easy to take in and out as well.

We also love how much storage this boat has. Every time we took it out, we were able to bring our ice chest, camera gear, and other items with us with no problem. There are also tons of leg space. The amble leg space, combined with the comfortable camping chair style seat makes the Argo 100XR one of the more comfortable kayaks that we owned. If you’re taller or have a bigger frame, this kayak is made for you. Vy is smaller so she felt that it seemed to be a bit too roomy for her. The cockpit is the same width as the mustang, but it is one inch longer. That made it just a little bit harder for her to reach her phone when it was on the cockpit table.

When out on the water, it always handles amazingly well and it feels super stable. Even on a busier day on the bay, where we have constant traffic of big boats and wave runners, our little kayak took it like a champ!

We didn’t have a chance to use any of the rigging tracks yet. However, the tracks can be super helpful to mount a GPS tracker or your GoPro. The rigging tracks make these items easily accessible. We might add one more track in the center of the boat, just because Dustin likes to video from that angle.

Overall, this kayak offers the same high-quality performance that we have come to expect from the Pelican brand. They do a fantastic job of creating feature-packed kayaks, at the same time, keeping the price tag affordable. Well done Pelican, keep it up!

If you are hoping to use your ARGO to go fishing, they also make an Angler version of the ARGO 100XR that comes with everything above as well as a swiveling rod holder on the front and 2 flush-mounted rod holders in the back.

Yes, you can use this in saltwater. We took ours to the bay all the time. However, this kayak is meant for calm water so make sure to keep it inside the bay and such. It is not meant for open water with waves.
